To mountains after a heavy gale

My friend with two children was going to mountains Krkonoshe in the east of Czechia for a week. They invited us to visit them during the weekend.

We have drived out on Saturday morning. We went by car along the highway without adventures. The adventures began on the country roads. The fact was that couple days before our trip a heavy gale had passed across Czechia. Perhaps, it was stronger in the east mountains than in Prague. At first we met a degraded bridge. All cars passed it along a very narrow extreme strip, therefore there were long rows of cars in both directions. Than we met a lot of trees broken by the wind or pulled up by the roots. And some of them - real giants - were laid near the road roots upwards with a piece of road asphalt!

We arrived to Jasenske Lazne at noon. It was a small town with some hotels, cafes and skiing schools. In general Jasenske Lazne was the skiing resort with mountains covered with elevators. In the summer people come here to be closer to nature and to walk along wood tracks, to gather mushrooms. From the beginning we planned: 1) to broil shashliks; 2) to swim. But the first was not possible, since Krkonoshe was a reserved zone, and the second - since it was cool enough and rainy. We did not want to go even to a pool with thermal water at all.

So, we undertook a wood walk. As we were with four-year children and we have chosen the shortest line in 2,5 km. Wonderful! At first we went uphill, breathed mountain air, peered into the depths of the forest from a track, photographed. Sometimes we came more deeply into the wood to look for mushrooms. We found only toadstools, but all the same our children were happy. Once a brown hare run across our road. On a half-way the rain started, and we had to quicken the pace. Unfortunately we were improperly dressed. It did not come to my mind that the weather could be cold and wet. Therefore we were dressed in shorts and T-shirts, and had swimsuits in our rucksack. Fortunately we had decided to take sweaters at the last moment.

woodSomewhere on the half-way of our walk we supposed to find a sight platform and take a photograph of great mountains surrounding us from a bird's-eye view, but... we went out to an automobile road. Everybody got hungry during the walk, therefore it was necessary to come back to the town. I liked the way back even more. The path went downwards, it was more "wild", continually we met small waterfalls and streams with ice water. The rain had already stopped and we suned ourselves at open places.

At the local cafe we were offered salads, a meat broth, meat-grill and cold drinks. We were lucky that cafes were opened at all. The town "Jasenske Lazne" and neighbourhood remained without an electricity after the gale for some days! There was no even cellular communication the first time. We had a late dinner, it was about 5 pm. We wanted to take one more walk, but the rain had started again, and we decided that it was time to go home.

We also had a thought to rise in mountains on the elevator, but there was not electricity, the elevators were inactive. Even they were active for some time, we did not like the idea to get stuck in the middle of the sky.

After our trip it occured to me that mountains Krkonoshe was the Czech "Altay Mountains", though they were not so high and great as the Altay Mountains. I thought, we would return to Krkonoshe to ski, for example.
